These portraits have such interesting composition, and I think in black and white they are so much more appealing than they would have been in color. The framing of the subjects in some of the photos, like the ones in the alleyway, is very well done. Actually, there are plenty of compositional techniques (symmetry, silhouette, etc.) which make the photos more aesthetically pleasing. I often find portraits boring, but these are anything but.
